Student Activities Highlights

Concordia is a member of the NSAA (Nebraska School Activities Association) and the Centennial Conference. Other members of the Centennial Conference include: Archbishop Bergan Catholic, Boys Town, David City Aquinas, Grand Island Central Catholic, Hastings St. Cecilia, Kearney Catholic, Lincoln Christian, Lincoln Lutheran, Scotus Central Catholic, Wahoo Bishop Neumann. Athletic competition is at the Class C-1 or B level depending on the sport. There are many student opportunities for athletics including a few sports that are offered through cooperatives with other schools such as Mercy High School (softball) and Brownell Talbot (swimming and tennis).
Fine Arts are integrated into curriculum opportunities such as band and choir as well as student extracurricular activities. Whether the activity is music, drama, or student leadership, Concordia is committed to excellence.

Cheer
The Concordia Cheer Team plays a vital role in fostering school spirit and community pride. The program features a Game Day Squad that cheers at all varsity football and basketball games, as well as a Competition Squad that competes in Nebraska competitions, including the Nebraska Coaches Association State Championship. Additionally, Academy and middle school students have opportunities to participate in cheer teams for PAL league games, building skills and enthusiasm at all levels.

Football
The Concordia Football program is committed to being a premier NSAA Class C1 team, excelling both on the field and in all areas of student life. Our mission is to develop great football players, outstanding student-athletes, and strong leaders within the Concordia community. We are a team that values family, fosters an environment of belief, hard work, and high character, and strives to make a positive impact both on and off the field. Above all, we prioritize our faith and our relationship with God, ensuring that these principles guide everything we do.

Volleyball
Concordia offers interscholastic volleyball opportunities for girls in grades 3-12. Students in grades 3-8 compete in the Parochial Athletic League, while the high school team has achieved significant success in the NSAA, winning a state championship, finishing as state runner-up, and qualifying for the state tournament multiple times. The program emphasizes teamwork, skill development, and competitive excellence, fostering a strong volleyball tradition at all levels.

Cross Country
Concordia’s Cross Country program, open to students in grades 6-12, fosters a culture of dedication, perseverance, and personal growth. Athletes are encouraged to set goals, maintain a positive mindset, and support one another in a team-oriented environment. Through hard work and commitment, runners strive for excellence both on the course and in life.

Dance
The Concordia Dance Team showcases a variety of routines at home varsity football and basketball games, pep assemblies, and school events. In addition to performances, the team competes in Nebraska competitions, including the Nebraska Coaches Association State Championships. Under the leadership of Coach Andrea Robertson, the program emphasizes technical skill, teamwork, and school spirit.

Golf
The state-qualifying boys and girls golf programs at Concordia focus on teaching golf fundamentals, striving for excellence on the course, and growing in faith with Jesus. The girls’ team competes in Class C during the fall, while the boys’ team competes in Class B in the spring. Both teams emphasize skill development, sportsmanship, and the importance of faith in every aspect of competition.

Softball
Concordia students compete on a co-op softball team with Mercy (the host school), Brownell Talbot, and Omaha Christian Academy. The team, coached by Jeff Sturgeon, plays its home games at Crown & Wager Field in Ralston. This program emphasizes teamwork, skill development, and sportsmanship as athletes work together to compete at a high level.

Tennis
Concordia high school students have the opportunity to compete in the NSAA tennis season on a co-op team hosted by Brownell Talbot. Boys compete in the fall under the coaching of Mark Smith, with matches held at Duchesne High School. The girls’ team competes in the spring and is coached by Sean Padios, with practices and competitions hosted at the Omaha Country Club (OCC). Both teams emphasize skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a competitive environment.

Basketball
Concordia’s basketball program is a premier NSAA Class C1 program dedicated to excellence on the court, in the classroom, and in spiritual growth. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams are highly competitive, with the boys’ team consistently qualifying for the state tournament in recent years. Rooted in a culture that values family, faith, and character, the program develops athletes who strive for success in all aspects of life.

Esports
The Concordia Esports program competes in the Nebraska Scholastic Esports Association (NSESA), a league that has grown from 13 to 109 schools since its inception. Since joining the league in the 2022-2023 school year, Concordia has achieved remarkable success, earning two state championships in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and securing two top-six finishes in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate (4th and 6th place). The program has also helped train 32 young athletes, fostering both competitive spirit and teamwork in the growing world of esports.

Swimming
Concordia high school swimmers compete in the NSAA as part of a co-op team hosted by Brownell Talbot, with Roncalli, Mercy, and Cornerstone also participating. The team is coached by Jimmy Parmenter and practices and competes at Brownell Talbot. This program focuses on skill development, teamwork, and competitive excellence in the pool.

Wrestling
Concordia’s wrestling program offers a comprehensive range of opportunities, including a wrestling club for children from Pre-K through 8th grade, led by the high school wrestling staff. The program also features separate boys’ and girls’ Middle School and High School teams that compete in events from November through February. The wrestling program instills key values such as discipline, hard work, a positive mindset, goal setting, competition, sportsmanship, leadership, and the importance of being strong role models both on and off the mat.

Baseball
Concordia’s baseball program is a three-time NSAA Class B state qualifier, serving as the host school in a cooperative that includes Brownell Talbot and OCA. The team practices and competes at historic Orval Smith Field in Ralston. Under the leadership of Head Coach Dan Kraft, the program emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and competitive excellence.

Shooting Sports
Concordia’s Shooting Sports program is open to students in grades 6-12 and participates in the Eastern Cornhusker Trapshooting Conference each spring. The competition season runs from mid-March through the end of April, culminating in the Cornhusker State Shoot in Doniphan in early May. This program provides students with the opportunity to develop their shooting skills while competing at a high level and fostering teamwork and discipline.

Soccer
Concordia’s girls’ soccer team competes in NSAA soccer as the host school in a cooperative program with Brownell Talbot, DC West, and OCA. Under the leadership of Head Coach Laura Troutman, the team has cultivated a culture that emphasizes both hard work and fun. The boys’ soccer team competes in an NSAA co-op with Roncalli, with Brownell Talbot students also on the roster. Head Coach Sarah Pritza leads the boys’ team, fostering a competitive yet supportive environment for athletes to grow and excel.

Track and Field
Concordia offers track and field opportunities for students in grades 6-12. The middle school team, led by Coach Shepherdson, competes in a season sponsored by the Parochial Athletic League. The high school team, coached by Kent McCrimmon, has consistently qualified individuals for the NSAA state championships. Coach McCrimmon emphasizes students’ identity in Christ and works with a large, diverse coaching team to prepare athletes for success in their events. Practices for both teams are held at Elkhorn Grandview Middle School, just west of Concordia’s campus.

Tennis

Tri-M: National Music Honor Society
Concordia Elementary (K-5) offers music class as part of the curriculum, elective choir, handbells, chimes, strings (beginning in 3rd grade) and concert band (only for 5th grade).
Drumline
Open to students in grades 7-12, the Concordia Drumline is a high-energy ensemble that brings excitement and rhythm to school and community events. The group rehearses twice a week during the summer and performs at home football games, select volleyball games, and special events throughout the fall. No prior experience is required—just a passion for music and teamwork.

Tri-M Music Honor Society
The Tri-M Music Honor Society is a national organization designed for and led by student musicians, akin to the National Honor Society but specifically for music students. Open to students in grades 10-12, the society recognizes musical excellence and leadership while fostering a community of passionate, dedicated musicians. Members are encouraged to further their musical skills, contribute to the school and local community, and inspire a love of music in others.

Drama Department
The Concordia High School Musical production is performed in the spring with a full cast, pit orchestra, and backstage crew opportunities, including stage management. Chris Ebke directs the show. Recent shows include Les Miserables, Anything Goes, The Addams Family, Hello Dolly, and Matilda.
The Middle School Musical is performed in the fall under the direction of Concordia Alumni Ethan and Taylor Domsch. Past performances have included The Little Mermaid Jr., Frozen Jr., Annie Jr., and Sister Act, Jr. Show dates and tryouts are announced at the beginning of each school year.
Play Production, commonly known as One Act, is an NSAA competitive activity directed by Chase Winter. Concordia placed in the top three teams at the Class B State Play Production championships for seven consecutive years, alongside many other individual and team awards and accolades.
Speech Team (NSAA activity) is coached by Sarah Glover.
Musical
Concordia stages two annual musicals for upper-grade students: the Middle School Musical in the fall and the High School Musical in early to mid-March. These productions offer a wide range of opportunities for students to get involved, whether on stage, behind the scenes, or (for the High School Musical) in the pit orchestra. Students are encouraged to audition or contribute their talents to help bring these performances to life, developing skills in acting, stage production, music, and teamwork.

One Act
The One Act team at Concordia competes in NSAA competitions, presenting a 30-minute play that is judged on acting abilities and stagecraft skills. With a strong tradition of success, the team has earned 11 district championships and 6 state medals. Through collaboration and dedication, students refine their performance and technical skills, contributing to the ongoing legacy of excellence in the program.

Speech Team
The Concordia Speech Team provides students with the opportunity to participate in acting and public speaking events at regional competitions. Students are judged on their speaking, interpreting, and performance skills, developing their abilities in communication, critical thinking, and presentation while honing their confidence and stage presence.

High School Student Council
The High School Student Council at Concordia aims to develop capable student leaders who represent the interests of their peers. The council focuses on increasing student spirit and participation through organizing events, advocating for student needs, and fostering a positive, engaged school community.

Middle School Student Council
The Middle School Student Council is an elected group of students dedicated to enhancing the school environment and representing their peers. Meeting once a week during lunch, the council discusses a variety of topics including dance themes, leadership development, fundraisers, and organizing special events for Middle School students, fostering a sense of community and student involvement.

Student Ambassadors
Concordia’s Student Ambassadors are a distinguished group of students who serve as representatives of the school, providing valuable insights and guidance to prospective students and their families. As the face of Concordia, they lead campus tours, assist with admissions events such as open houses, and support various school initiatives. Through their professionalism, enthusiasm, and firsthand experiences, Ambassadors foster a welcoming environment and promote a positive image of the school within the community.

National Honor Society
The Concordia Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) includes 30 Junior and Senior members who are selected through a competitive process based on scholarship, character, leadership, and service. NHS members play a key role in organizing various service projects throughout the school year, including the Red Cross Blood Drive, and are committed to upholding the values of academic excellence and community service.

National Spanish Honor Society
The Concordia Chapter of the National Spanish Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, SHH) is composed of upper-level Spanish students who are passionate about deepening their knowledge of the Spanish language and culture. Members share their enthusiasm with the broader student body by spotlighting notable Latino-Americans, celebrating key cultural events such as Hispanic Heritage Month, and organizing watch parties for culturally significant movies and television shows. Through these activities, the chapter fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of Hispanic culture within the Concordia community.

Envirothon
Envirothon offers students the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge of the environment and natural resources to real-world challenges. Teams of five compete across seven topics: soils, aquatics, forestry, policy, wildlife, range, and a current issue selected annually by the National Conservation Foundation (NCF) Envirothon Committee. Each year, 80-90 teams from across Nebraska participate in the program, with the state champion team earning the honor of representing Nebraska at the NCF International Envirothon competition. Concordia has a distinguished history in this program, winning 8 out of the last 11 state competitions and achieving as high as 11th place internationally.

Quiz Bowl
The Quiz Bowl team at Concordia competes in area trivia competitions for both Middle School and high school students. This team challenges participants to showcase their knowledge across a wide range of subjects, fostering teamwork, quick thinking, and academic excellence in a fun and competitive environment.

Robotics
The Concordia Robotics Club is a competitive team that fosters STEM education in a Christ-centered environment. Each year, students tackle a new challenge by designing and building a robot from scratch to compete in the VEX V5 Robotics Competition, both locally and nationally. With aspirations of returning to the World Championships, where they compete against 800 teams from over 40 nations, the club emphasizes teamwork, innovation, and representing their faith in all their endeavors.

Mock Trial
The Mock Trial program provides students with a hands-on experience of the trial process, from start to finish. This activity is an excellent opportunity for students to sharpen their public speaking, critical thinking, and argument development skills, while also learning valuable life skills such as teamwork, research, and problem-solving. Participants gain insight into the legal process and develop confidence that will benefit them in a variety of future endeavors.

Archery Program
Concordia’s Archery Program is open to students in grades 6 through 12, providing them with the opportunity to participate in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). Meeting before school during zero hour, the program is limited in enrollment due to space constraints. Running from mid-fall through February, students develop their archery skills in a structured setting and have the chance to compete in NASP tournaments on select Saturdays.

Art Club
The Art Club fosters creativity, imagination, and artistic expression beyond the traditional classroom setting. Students have the opportunity to explore diverse materials and projects that extend beyond standard art curriculum, allowing them to develop their skills and experiment with new techniques in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Cool Beans
Cool Beans is a student-led organization that offers beverages and select food items to students before school in the commons. More than just a café, Cool Beans operates with a mission to give back—donating its profits each year to support a chosen charity. Through this initiative, students gain hands-on experience in business operations while making a meaningful impact in the community.

Fishing Club
Each spring, the Concordia Fishing Club organizes a fishing tournament, bringing students together to enjoy and celebrate the sport of fishing. The event fosters camaraderie and provides an opportunity for students to develop their skills while engaging in a fun and relaxing outdoor activity.

Holiday Run Club
“Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the run is so delightful.” The Holiday Run Club encourages healthy activity and running from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day. This community event is open to Concordia students, families, and friends, offering a fun and festive way to stay active and burn off those holiday indulgences while enjoying the season together.

Hope Team
Concordia’s Hope Team is dedicated to promoting positive mental health, fostering resilient thinking, and spreading hope within the school community. The team works to connect students to Jesus Christ and to one another, creating a supportive environment aimed at preventing self-harm and suicidal thoughts. Through compassion and outreach, the Hope Team empowers students to build strong mental and emotional well-being.

International Club
The International Club at Concordia meets 5-6 times each school year to celebrate and share diverse family backgrounds and cultures. The club organizes field trips to interesting locations in Omaha and traditionally hosts a Christmas potluck. Additionally, the club collaborates with international students to organize an annual Lunar New Year celebration. Our mission is to foster cross-cultural understanding and build connections by learning more about the traditions and experiences of people from around the world.

Lightbearers
The Middle School Lightbearers at Concordia are dedicated to shining a light on God’s Word while offering encouragement and prayer for both staff and students. The group meets twice a month during lunch to come together in fellowship, support one another, and grow in faith as they create a positive and uplifting environment within the school community.

Math Team
The Middle School Math Team at Concordia competes in various contests throughout the year, culminating in the opportunity to attend the prestigious National MathCounts Contest in Washington, D.C. Students prepare for these challenges during their first-period elective class, Competition Math, where they develop their problem-solving skills and deepen their love for mathematics.

Media Club
The Media Club at Concordia focuses on creating value-driven, high-quality media to promote CLSO and enhance the school community. Members assist with chapel announcements and contribute to the production of events, including indoor volleyball, basketball, and wrestling competitions. Through hands-on experience, the club fosters skills in media production while supporting school events and communications.

Nutrition Club
Our mission is to educate and empower students to make informed, healthy choices about their nutrition and understand the impact of food on their overall well-being. Through engaging lessons, hands-on activities, and interactive taste-testing experiences, we strive to promote lifelong healthy habits and cultivate a school-wide culture of wellness.

Y4Life
Y4Life is dedicated to equipping high school and college-aged youth to be Gospel-motivated voices for life. Through service, education, worship, and celebration, the program encourages youth to engage in life-affirming activities and become Leaders for Life in their schools, communities, nation, and world. By fostering a strong foundation in faith, Y4Life inspires young people to advocate for the sanctity of life in all its stages.
