Concordia Ignite
Welcome to Concordia Ignite
Concordia Ignite is part of Concordia Academy as a parallel multi-age program alongside Concordia’s graded K-5 classrooms. The addition of the multi-age learning opportunities in Ignite provides a unique opportunity for parents of elementary students at Concordia to select from two high-quality student experiences that are unique from one another.
Concordia Ignite’s design aims to provide a distinct experience to spark each child’s God-given potential. Our Ignite classrooms are intentionally multi-age. In Ignite, younger students learn richly from older learners, and older learners practice leadership skills. This environment minimizes competition and comparisons between students and fosters cooperation and teamwork.
Ignite has some unique methods. In Ignite, students in grades 2-5 (Ember & Blaze classrooms) learn to manage their time and tasks during a “Power Hour” learning block. During Power Hour, students work independently on different tasks and subjects. Students actively participate in setting individual goals for parts of their weekly workload. Teachers have pull-out lessons with smaller groups and guide students during Power Hour.
Badges are another method that allows students to work independently. Students earn badges in various subjects, including memory, geography, reading, and history. Socratic Discussions in Ignite also provide experiential learning opportunities, especially in communication. History also has a particular emphasis in Ignite at a young age as we discuss all history as part of HIS-story (God’s Story).
Our Ignite K-1 classroom (Spark classroom) benefits kindergarten and first-grade students with a mixed-age classroom approach. We provide small group instruction in the Spark classroom, emphasizing literacy and math foundations. Age-appropriate access to many elements that make our Ignite program unique, including an emphasis on studying history and the opportunity for students to earn badges in different subject areas, help students starting the Ignite program master understanding of new skills and develop independence as learners.
The methods and setting of the Ignite learning experience may be different. Still, Ignite’s mission remains the same as all of the Concordia Lutheran Schools of Omaha programs as we strive to produce Faith Secure, World Ready, Kingdom Leaders. Jesus Christ remains the cornerstone of all we do!
