Following six years of teaching at St. Paul Lutheran School in Omaha, Mr. Cooksey was awarded a Master of Arts Degree from Concordia University-Nebraska in K-6th Grade Administration. Six years later, while serving at Shepherd of the Hills Christian School in Centennial, Colorado, he was awarded a Master of Arts endorsement from Concordia University-Nebraska in 7-12th Grade Administration.

Mr. Cooksey served as a middle-level teacher at St. Paul Lutheran in Omaha, Nebraska. He has served as a teacher and administrator at St. Mark Lutheran School in Cleveland, Ohio; Shepherd of the Hills Christian School in Centennial, Colorado; Sioux Fall Lutheran School Association in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and for 11 years, at Christ Community Lutheran School in St. Louis, Missouri. In August 2013, Mr. Cooksey was called as the Head of Schools to Concordia Lutheran Schools of Omaha.

During his tenure in St. Louis, Mr. Cooksey led his school through the National Blue Ribbon Schools award program.  Christ Community Lutheran School was named a 2009 High-Achieving National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Mr. Cooksey was named a 2012 Lutheran Education Association National Distinguished Principal and recognized by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod office of School Ministry as a Distinguished Lutheran Educator.

Mr. Cooksey enjoys consulting with other schools in areas that lead them to greater ministry success. He is the co-founder of Love and Logic University and a national presenter on topics related to school and parent discipline, marketing and branding, and community building. Since 2009, he has served as the commissioned minister of religion serving the Board of Regents at Concordia University-Nebraska. He is an adjunct professor at Concordia University-Nebraska working with student teachers, serves on the LEA Board of Directors, and consults for the LCMS School Ministry Department’s Lutheran Schools Consulting Services.

Mr. Cooksey is supported in ministry and life by his wife, Dawn, and their three amazing children. He fully recognizes that without their support, none of his efforts in ministry would be possible. Dawn serves as the Admissions Director at Concordia Lutheran Schools of Omaha. Anna is a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and is married to Stephen. She also received a M.A. in Public Policy at George Washington University and is employed with Deloitte. Sarah is a graduate of at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri and is married to Cory.  She has put her marketing and communications skills to valuable use at Lutheran Hour Ministries.  Aaron is an freshman at University of Nebraska, Omaha.
